Cloak Making Process
Winter has arrived, and everyone is thinking of various ways to keep warm. Few people have Hanfu specifically made for all four seasons, so we need to think about how to wear our limited Hanfu in the cold winter? A cloak is undoubtedly the best choice. So today, I will talk to you about making a cloak. First, choose suitable fabric. What kind of fabric is suitable for making a cloak? To ensure the cloak is warm, you cannot choose thin materials like chiffon, thin cotton, or silk. Thicker fabrics such as jacquard cotton and wool flannel are better for insulation. Of course, this is the first step in selecting the outer fabric. The second step is choosing the lining. If you are sensitive to the cold, you can choose various padded fabrics or faux fur with a fluffy texture or coral fleece. Here, I will show two fabrics that I chose: The first one is thick jacquard cotton used as the outer fabric. The second one is thick fluffy fabric used as the inner lining. With the fabric chosen, it's time to start making the cloak. Next, understand the components of the cloak. A cloak consists of two parts:… -
Two Methods for Making Cloaks
Tomorrow is Minor Snow, and it seems that the north is about to welcome its first snowfall of the winter. A cloak is perhaps the most fitting attire for a snowy scene. Setting aside the debate over whether it belongs to Hanfu (traditional Chinese clothing), making a warm, beautiful, and versatile cloak to match your Hanfu while watching the snow is a wonderful idea. Today, I will introduce two methods for making cloaks. Here we go. Pleated Cloak The pleated cloak was a popular style in earlier years, similar to a pleated skirt. Tutorial for Making a Two-Piece Full Skirt
There are two methods for making a two-piece full skirt: one is the conventional method, and the other is my unique lazy method. Currently, there is no historical evidence to support the existence of two-piece pleated skirts, so please consider this information critically and make your own decision. ➤ Fabric: 5 meters or 6 meters. This tutorial uses 5 meters of fabric. Method One: Conventional Two-Piece 1. Cut two pieces of fabric, each 95 cm wide (your desired skirt length) and 2.5 meters long (5 meters divided by 2; if you want a 6-meter hem, the length should be 3 meters). 2. Fold the long edges of both pieces of fabric (the hem of the skirt) and finish the edges. Finishing the edges first prevents them from fraying later. 3. Pleat both pieces of fabric. The length of the waistband for the front piece should equal (waist circumference ÷ 2 + 15 cm), and the same applies to the back piece. You can leave about 15 cm at each end of the back piece unpleated, while the front piece should be fully pleated. This ensures that the overlapping parts of the front and back pieces do not look bulky and… -
The Process of Making a Cross-Collar Half-Arm Robe
The half-arm robe dimensions used in this example are: length 50, bust 85, and sleeve length 15. 1. First, prepare the materials, including a ruler, chalk, scissors, materials for the edges, and the main fabric. 2. Then fold the fabric flat and symmetrically. When laying out the fabric, pay attention to aligning it with the grain of the material because the stretchability of the fabric differs in the horizontal and vertical directions, which can affect the final fit of the garment. 3. Next, determine the center line of the garment. For cross-collar garments, the fit is adjusted by ties, so the center line should be offset from the edge. The calculation formula is (1/4 bust - 10~12). 4. Then determine the width of the bust line, which is offset from the center line by (1/4 bust + 2cm + 1cm). The height of the bust line varies depending on the individual, and it differs between men and women. In this example, the bust line height is 20. Mark this point. Next, determine the size of the neckline. Based on personal experience, the neckline width is between 6cm and 9cm, and it may vary depending on the size and method of… -

In this issue, let's follow Hanfu Culture Society and take a look at one of the Chinese traditional costumes, Lanshan (襕衫, lán shān), a Hanfu costume made especially for scholars. [Structure and History] In the history of ancient Chinese traditional costume, there is a kind of long garment that is cut in one piece at the top and bottom (Tongcai, 通裁) and has a Hanglan (横襕, a seam at the Lanshan's knee) at the hem, which is called "Lanshan". The system of the upper Yi and lower Chang was followed in ancient times, and the ritual system was made to symbolize the ancient people's respect for the world and the construction of order.
