Ming Dynasty Hanfu Aoqun Introduction, Hanfu Ming Style Aoqun
The aoqun is a type of ceremonial dress in Hanfu. The term "ao" refers to an upper garment with lining, while a single-layered upper garment is called a "shan," hence it is also known as a shanqun. Typically, the ao is worn over the qun (skirt). Its prototype originated during the Wei, Jin, and Southern and Northern Dynasties, and by the Ming Dynasty, it became the most common outfit. The ao commonly has pipa sleeves or straight sleeves, and the qun is usually paired with a Ming-style mamian skirt or a regular pleated skirt. The Ming style is suitable for all body types. Compared to long ao, aoqun makes one appear taller, making it very suitable for petite women.
